Even so, the melt point is the first number to read on any COA, because it predicts how the wax behaves at room temperature, how fast it sets, and how much it shrinks while it cools.

For container candles, a soy wax melting point near 58°C (136°F) is the practical reference: firm enough to hold a clean surface at normal room temperature, low enough to melt with standard candle equipment. A grade with a different melt point behaves differently in your melter, your pour line, your warehouse, and your customer's living room. The 58° grade is 100% pure soy wax in fine granule form. Uniform granules pack tightly with little air between them, so when the wax melts and pours, fewer trapped pockets remain to turn into voids after cooling. Tight packing also makes dosing predictable: the same measured volume of granules weighs almost the same every time. That consistency stabilizes your fill weights and your cost per candle.

Granules also move well in a workshop. They pour out of the bag, scoop cleanly, and melt evenly without pre-breaking. If you have ever chipped a solid block of wax before an early pour, you already know why buyers request granule form.

Sink holes: where they come from and how to remove them

Fragrance load: the ratio that sets your scent cost

Fragrance load is the ratio of fragrance oil to wax in your recipe. It decides three commercial things: how the candle performs in a room, what the scent costs per unit, and how the wax behaves while it sets.

Because the 58°C melt point sits far above workshop and storage temperatures, the granules stay free-flowing and cup filling stays easy even in warm summer months.

Wick work decides most container-candle results. Match the wick to the vessel diameter, your fragrance load, and your repour step, and test every new vessel before you commit a production batch. Nothing changes performance as fast as a wick change.

Pillars and molded candles: blend before you pour

Molded candles are a different job from containers. A pillar poured into a mold must release cleanly after it sets. Pure soy shrinks slowly and stays relatively soft, so tall, straight-sided shapes can stick or deform. That is a property of the material, not a failure of your process.

The standard fix is a blend: roughly 30% soft soy wax, or 30% of a firmer wax such as beeswax or paraffin, added to the melt.
